I hate when this happens…

Finally, some REAL pictures!

I went to the gym today planning on getting my LIFT on, but I got distracted by….ahem, the Jersey Shore. Yep, I’m a classy lady. I hadn’t really done a nice long cardio session though, so I ended up mixing it up and doing 35 minutes on the elliptical, 25 minutes on the bike, and a quick 20 minute run and cool-down, all while watchin Snookie get her Snook on. Yikes.

Is it really shameful that I kind of like Pauly D? Not in a…sexual way, haha, but I like the way he carries himself and handles all the crazy situations in the house. For such an ugly head of hair, he has a good head on his shoulders!

My lunch today was absolute HEAVEN.

I am a salad ARTIST

If you’re wondering — yes, that tasted as good as it looks. I had a super meaty lunch and dinner yesterday, so my bod was craving a veggie-heavy, meat-free meal. I had some mixed greens, an “Ugli” heirloom tomato, some cukes, red pepper, carrot chips, half an avocado, a lil goat cheese and some dry roasted pumpkin seeds. I topped it all off with some Ken’s Steak House light olive oil vinaigrette dressing and a pinch of salt. I was laughing because every time a coworker walked past, they were like, “Ohhhh my gosh, that looks SO good. Did you MAKE that?”

Can you tell I really loved my salad?

After letting that big ol’ salad settle, I had some Amy’s Organic Black Bean & Vegetable soup. It’s one of my faaaavorites, but it gets expensive at 3 bucks a pop. I’ve been wanting to make my own for awhile to save some $$$, but I don’t know which recipe I want to use. I’m not really big into spicy black bean soup, and I love how Amy’s is super creamy but also still chunky, and is also chock-full of veggies. Anyone have any recipes they’d like to share?

I clearly didn't enjoy it at all...

While I was at the grocery store, I also saw this soda I’ve been wanting to try. I don’t really drink soda anymore (unless it’s 1am and it’s mixed with vodka :P) because of the high calorie count of regular soda and the aspartame in diet. It tastes okay, but it really just doesn’t seem worth it to me 98% of the time. Aspartame gives me nasty headaches, I’ve noticed.

So this stuff is usually $5 for four cans — FOUR CANS! — meaning I would never shell out that kinda cash for soda, curious or not. But it was on sale for $3 today, so I figured, why not?

Zevia!

It’s called “Zevia” and is basically diet soda that’s sweetened with stevia. The only flavor that really appealed to me was “Dr. Zevia,” which is obviously a play on Dr. Pepper. The other flavors were lemon/lime, cola, ginger beer…and I think there was one more.

It didn’t really taste like Dr. Pepper (or Diet Dr. Pepper, rather), but it was sort of a cross between DDP and black cherry flavor. A lot sweeter than regular diet soda, too. It was pretty good! If you are into soda but don’t like aspartame or gobs of sugar either, I would recommend giving it a try.

I made a delicious dinner tonight — quickie pesto with chicken sausage, but I’m way too tired to put it up at the moment. I’ll do the recipe tomorrow — it was super fast and delicious!

Night, folks!

Why I love the health & fitness blogging community

I’m sitting at me desk, hunched over and wearing ridiculously warm (but cute!) tweed/wool dress pants. My brain wants to exercise but my body says, “bleh.”

I took a little mental vacation over to Peanut Butter Fingers where Julie has put up a great list of exercise mantras! A few of her (and my) favorites:

  • You know your limit and this is NOT it. (Meaghan)
  • A body at rest wants to stay at rest. A body in motion wants to stay in motion. (Heidi)
  • No hurt, no mini skirt. (Kelly)
  • When your legs are tired, run with your heart. (Gabriela)
  • You don’t HAVE to exercise. You GET to exercise. (Kimberly)
  • Everyone has 24 hours in one day. What you do with those hours is up to you. Make the most of them! (Jessica)
  • You are just one workout away from a good mood. (Cynthia)

I love this stuff! Keep it comin’!

Getting myself into trouble again

image

Unexpected stressful situation mid-workday…needed a breather to stay sane. Earl Grey soy latte and a brief pep talk with myself at Starbucks will have to do.
